As many of you know, Bryce Jenkins was diagnosed with advanced, stage 4 colon cancer on May 1, 2008.
Being given a slim chance of survival, he went through the first full round of Chemo last year and when the Cancer returned with stronger resistance and a much more aggressive growth he was started on the second series of Chemo earlier this year.
During this second series of Chemo his body reacted against the medication and he was told by his doctors that chemo was no longer a survivable option.
By what we consider a miracle, Bryce was given the opportunity to participate in a new, experimental cancer treatment in Germany.
Bryce was fortunate to be one of four individuals to receive this treatment by the passing of a wonderful lady named Josie, whose family had heard about Bryce and with their overwhelming generosity and kind assistance; the family offered Bryce her position.
This treatment, developed at John Hopkins, has a 100% success rate in killing human cancer tumors in the animal trials, which is almost unheard of.
It offers a new potent anticancer agent for hepatocellular carcinomas and at the same time offers a direct approach for delivering an anticancer agent to liver tumors. The agent may have widespread application as a general anticancer agent for many other tumors. Also, the agent may have widespread application in suppressing or defeating many metastatic tumors as well as suppressing certain forms of leukemia.
While our first concern is to keep Bryce alive, we firmly believe this is a cure for many cancers and pray it will make it past the hurdles and get to all the patients who need it.
Bryce has now traveled twice to Frankfurt Germany and on the first treatment received what appears to have stopped or killed the main tumors in his Liver and on his left side.
On his second visit this past week of June 30, he was treated with twice the dose, re-targeting the older tumors and a group of new tumors that had appeared on the current scan.
We do not know yet how well the increased dose has worked, but will post the results on the website next week after the scans. He needs to leave again by this next Tuesday for the third treatment.
As his cancer is very aggressive and fast growing, the Hospital has increased the treatments to twice each month.
To complete the full series of treatments, Bryce must return to Germany twice each month for 8 more months; and while the Doctors are donating their time and the formula, Bryce must pay the costs of airfare, hotel, and hospital fees, which are costing about $8,000 each visit.
As you can imagine, $16,000 each month is a tremendous expense and our family is unable manage without assistance.
Determined to not let cost interfere with this miraculous opportunity to receive a life saving treatment we have set up a fundraiser on his behalf.
We humbly ask for any help you can give to allow Bryce to continue receiving this revolutionary life saving treatment in Germany and bring hope to cancer patients everywhere. We sincerely need your support!
